Burghfield Santas Raise funds while raising a toast

Thank you letters can normally wait until January but, this Christmas, we’re saying a big thank you to the Burghfield Santas for their continued support.

The Santas, who have been raising money for our lifesaving charity since 2004, have had an enormous impact on our ability to provide lifesaving critical care in the community.

Over the last twenty years, their seasonal pub crawls, family bike rides, and even children’s stories, have spread festive cheer and raised vital funds. Their annual Santa Cruise took place this month and raised more than £2,000. A fantastic amount, which takes their lifetime total to over £366,000.

What started out as just a group of friends having fun and supporting a local cause at the same time, has now raised enough to fund critical care for more than 100 seriously ill and injured residents of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, and Oxfordshire when they need it most.

This year, we nominated the Burghfield Santas for a Pride of Reading award for Community of the Year. We’re delighted to say they won.

Ruth Dunkin, our Head of Community Events, said:

“The Burghfield Santas have Christmas spirit in spades, and they put it to very good use. Thanks to the efforts of these festive friends, there may be families together this Christmas who otherwise might have an empty seat at the table. On behalf of our charity and the community, thank you to these super Santas.”
