Introduction:
The Advanced Airway & PHEA Assistant Course provides structured training for clinicians involved in supporting advanced airway management and pre-hospital anaesthesia. The programme emphasises the principles of preparation, equipment familiarity, and teamwork. Participants will gain a detailed understanding of the assistant’s role during all stages of airway management and PHEA process from pre-procedure preparation and checklist use to active assistance during induction, airway management, and post-procedure care. The course highlights the importance of situational awareness, structured communication, and maintaining scene safety.

Course Duration:
One day (theory and simulation-based learning)

Course Positioning:
This course is designed for clinicians operating at, or progressing towards, Levels 4–6 of the Skills for Health Career Framework. It is suitable for those supporting the delivery of pre-hospital critical care as well as registered healthcare professionals such as paramedics, nurses, or doctors seeking to develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence required to support pre-hospital anaesthesia.

Teaching and Learning:
Courses are delivered using a combination of lectures, workshops, practical skills sessions and immersive simulation. Participants engage in inter-professional learning supported by experienced faculty drawn from pre-hospital critical care and emergency medicine.

Assessment and Certification:

Introduction:
This course is designed to prepare advanced pre-hospital practitioners with the additional knowledge and skills required to deliver safe arterial line insertion and invasive blood pressure monitoring. This evolving and novel intervention allows for accurate monitoring of patients with high acuity illness or injury, assists in physiology guided cardiac arrest management and post resuscitation care. This course covers all aspects of arterial line insertion, considers base evidence as well as the knowledge, skill and behaviours required for safe practice.

Course Duration:
One day of workshops, practical skills stations, immersive simulation.

Course Positioning:
This course is designed for clinicians operating at, or progressing towards, Levels 6–7 of the Skills for Health Career Framework. It is suitable for those working in or supporting the delivery of pre-hospital critical care, including critical care paramedics, physicians, PHEM (Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine) trainees, and other senior clinicians involved in advanced resuscitation and critical care.

Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion learners will be able to demonstrate arterial line insertion in a simulated and supervised environment. Successful completion of the course does not confer authority to practice.

Teaching and Learning:
A blend of theoretical learning and hands-on practical stations, where learners will practise arterial access techniques using simulation models and discuss case-based scenarios relevant to pre-hospital care. Learners will also cover environmental and infection control considerations unique to out of hospital practice.

Assessment and Certification:
