Our Team

meet the team

All our staff play a vital role in helping us do the right thing for our patients, supporters and community.

Our paramedics, doctors and pilots work together at the frontline of saving lives. They are passionate, highly trained and ready for any eventuality, giving you the best chance when the worst happens.

Alongside our frontline team we have our operational support crew and a number of office roles.

Frontline Roles

TVAA critical care paramedic

CRITICAL CARE PARAMEDICS

Our critical care paramedics (CCPs) undergo enhanced training that gives them the skills to deliver advanced medical care to patients at the scene of an incident.

Our CCP’s also support the pilots with navigation when in flight and landing, and they drive our Critical Care Response cars.

A CCP based at our dispatch desk works alongside our dispatch team to deploy our crews to patients.

DOCTORS

Having a doctor in a crew means we can deliver advanced hospital-level emergency care, setting us apart from the standard ambulance service.

Our doctors come from a variety of backgrounds. As well as taking on shifts with Thames Valley Air Ambulance, they are based at hospitals and major trauma centres, work as GPs trained in advanced critical care, or have careers in the military. All are trained in pre-hospital emergency medicine.

pilots

We have a team of four highly experienced pilots who operate our aircraft.

Our pilots’ main responsibility is to ensure our crews reach patients quickly , saving time when minutes really matter.

Once they have landed at the scene of an incident, our pilots’ role is to transport the patient safely to hospital, before travelling to the next patient or returning to base.

TVAA Emergency Dispatch Assistant

Our Emergency Dispatch Assistants are the first point of call for our life-saving service.

Based at the Emergency Operations Centre in Bicester, our dispatchers monitor incoming 999 calls to identify which patients may benefit from our critical care service. Working side-by-side with one of our Critical Care Paramedics, our Emergency Dispatch Assistants determine the most appropriate asset to send to the patient and provide essential updates to the crew en-route to the scene.

OPERATIONS SUPPORT ASSISTANTS

Our Operations Support Assistants work behind-the-scenes to ensure we deliver the best for our patients.

From order medicines and equipment, to collecting daily supplies of fresh blood and plasma, our Operations Support Assistants complete essential tasks allowing our critical care crew to focus on patient care.

office roles

In the office

Our headquarters staff work together to support our frontline teams, ensuring we are able to deliver the best patient care. Our office-based teams include Operations, Clinical, Fundraising, Human Resources, Communications, Finance and IT.

Roles in the office can be very varied, from team members working on raising the crucial funding we need to operate, to colleagues working on ensuring that we abide by regulations around operating as an independent healthcare provider, to the person updating this website!
