Wycombe Wanderers Football Club (WWFC) dedicated their recent home game against Crawley Town to raising awareness of our vital pre-hospital critical care in the community.
The League One club encouraged fans to cheer on their local charity at the match. WWFC players appeared alongside a critical care paramedic to urge fans to donate £2 for the chance to win a signed football shirt, raising over £1,000.
Knowing that our community supports us, as well as their football team, is a winning feeling.
WWFC and Thames Valley Air Ambulance have a strong connection: in 2020, our helicopter landed at Adams Park when a fan suffered a cardiac arrest during a match. Then this year, the stadium was renamed Adam’s Park for one weekend only, in tribute to a 17-year-old supporter Adam Ankers who also sadly died after a cardiac arrest.
Ten-year-old Lewis, who brought on the match ball, was treated by our crews near his home in Stokenchurch after a road traffic collision last September. Lewis was proud to see his favourite team getting behind a charity that means so much to him.
Amanda McLean, Chief Executive at Thames Valley Air Ambulance, said:
“This year, we treated our 10,000th patient since becoming an independent healthcare provider. That’s enough to fill every seat in Adams Park. We asked fans to take a look around the stadium and imagine that every seat could represent a life helped by our service.
“We’re so grateful that Wycombe Wanderers have championed our charity. Knowing that our community supports us, as well as their football team, is a winning feeling.”
Jack Grimmer, captain of Wycombe Wanderers Football Club, said:
“I was delighted to meet Lewis after a game earlier this year and to learn all about the fantastic support that the Thames Valley Air Ambulance had given him at his time of need, and for him to join us and lead the team out was a special moment.
“Thames Valley Air Ambulance have helped so many people across the local community, including many of our own supporters, and we’re more than happy to help them celebrate their 25th anniversary and raise funds to help them continue their outstanding work.”
