Over 3,000 call outs last year

Our lifesaving service helped thousands of people in need of urgent care last year, with 3,129 call outs in 2024.

We responded to 1,081 call outs in Buckinghamshire, 860 in Oxfordshire, and 1,123 in Berkshire across the year. February, though the shortest month, was the busiest – with 282 call outs.

There’s no age limit for accidents and emergencies, and our crews attended 229 seriously ill or injured children last year, including 91 children under the age of five.

The most frequent type of call out was to cardiac arrests, with 1,207 over the year – an average of three a day.

These call outs could represent people welcoming in the new year who might otherwise not have been around

Amanda McLean, our Chief Executive Officer, said:

“These numbers bring home how much our service has grown over our 25-year history. In 2000, we were called out 149 times. Last year, we reached that total in the middle of January.

“Statistics only show part of the story. These call outs could represent people welcoming in the new year who might otherwise not have been around. Behind every number is a real person, with family and friends who love them.

“But, without you, that number would be zero. As an independent charity, every single call out is funded by the generosity of our supporters. Thank you for powering our care, at the scene and beyond.”
