our trustees

Like all charities, we are governed by a Board of Trustees. These volunteers ensure we have a strategy with a clear and appropriate direction, and that we operate within the relevant regulations and guidelines.

Our Board is made up of 12 Trustees, bringing decades of experience and expert knowledge – legal, financial, medical, aviation, marketing and fundraising.

Sarah began her career in marketing and branding initially in the healthcare sector and then the charity sector. More recently, she’s been involved in governance as a trustee and then progressed to Chair at Pancreatic Cancer UK. Her roles at a senior leadership level within the charity sector have provided her with the appropriate governance, strategic development, marketing and fundraising skills that she can use to best effect leading the Board of Trustees at Thames Valley Air Ambulance. 

Amanda is a marketing consultant in strategic evaluation, market entry assessment and business plans. She started her career in the corporate sector with J Sainsbury and then Bankers Trust (now Deutsche Bank) before moving into management consultancy with the retail specialists Management Horizons Europe. She is an Associate Fellow of the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford and a Growth Expert on the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Programme. 

Chris has over 30 years’ of experience working in the Finance Sector. He has extensive knowledge of risk and governance which he utilises to ensure the long-term sustainability of the charity. With a passion for aviation, Chris also has good working knowledge of helicopters.

Having an extensive global brand development background in health and wellness brands Claire brings a wealth of experience in brand development and guardianship along with integrated campaign development. She worked on the initial branding of London’s Air Ambulance gaining good insight into the vital role that air ambulances provide. 

David is a qualified paramedic and is familiar with digital healthcare, clinical informatics, mental health of workforce and stroke care. He brings a wealth of skills to Thames Valley Air Ambulance, with experience in organisation governance as well as strategic and operational clinical development. 

John has been a senior leader in the Defence Medical Services, serving for three years as Inspector General, sitting on the senior Board and reporting directly to the Surgeon General on clinical governance and patient safety. Prior to this, he was the commanding officer of a hospital and he spent many years as a practicing GP. He holds the Diploma in Aviation Medicine and is experienced in the management of helicopter medical evacuation from his time in the RAF.

Jon Kendrew is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic surgeon working in a busy Midlands Major Trauma Centre. He has experience of managing and working within small surgical teams where crew resource management, clinical governance and honed clinical skills are key to successful outcomes. His experience of building and managing these teams are utilised as a clinical trustee at Thames Valley Air Ambulance. 

Lesley is an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in General Practice and senior leader in an independent healthcare provider. Within this role, she is the Executive lead for safeguarding with a responsibility for governance and quality at all levels of the business. Furthermore, she was previously a CQC specialist advisor. Through her experiences she has a recognised and proven track record of implementing and monitoring governance frameworks within healthcare providers.

Rick’s areas of expertise include operational excellence, operating model development, strategy development and execution, risk management and aviation operations. His skills have benefited Thames Valley Air Ambulance with the integration of the new operating model and with the alignment of future strategy.

Roland is a retired senior solicitor who worked as Deputy Legal Director of Guinness (now Diageo) from 1989 to 1998. He has extensive experience of managing and of handling a wide range of legal problems from when he was previously a practising solicitor. These skills enable him to advise Thames Valley Air Ambulance from a legal perspective. He has also held trustee and governor roles at Abbeyfield High Wycombe and at a large primary and middle school in Buckinghamshire.

Tim Pollock is an Investment Director specialising in M&A across the Food and Agricultural sectors. He is also an experienced helicopter pilot flying and operating corporate helicopters in the UK and overseas. He was instrumental in negotiating the acquisition and operating lease of Thames Valley Air Ambulance’s current helicopter, G-TVAL. 

Vicky is a senior director with 20 years’ experience across finance (including tax and treasury), M&A and strategy. Predominantly, she has PLC experience of obtaining finance teams’ engagement and managing significant change across international organisations. Vicki’s familiarity with audit requirements and her financial experience enable her to ensure integrity and balance at Thames Valley Air Ambulance.
