March Volunteer Newsletter - Dates for your diary Volunteer Inductions We will be holding volunteer inductions throughout the year. This isn’t just for new volunteers – it can be a refresher for our long-standing ones as well. The induction will be based at RAF Benson and is an opportunity to learn about the charity, the service we provide and the responsibilities of being a TVAA volunteer. Saturday 8th July Saturday 9th September Sat 11th November Speaker Training A day of professional training to make you more confident talking and presenting to groups of people. This is held at Head Office 9.30am – 4.30pm. Lunch and refreshments are provided: Friday 7th April Thursday 22nd June Friday 29th September Friday 24th November Volunteer Conference We are pleased to let you know that we have secured a date and venue for our 2017 Volunteer’s Conference. It will be held on Wednesday 11th October at The Oxfordshire, Thame OX9 2PU. Time TBC but it will be around lunchtime – early afternoon as per the 2016 conference. For anyone who has joined the volunteer team since our last conference, this event is solely for volunteers and is a great opportunity to hear what we have been up to over the last 12 months and what we have planned for the next 12 months. You will hear from charity staff, trustees and crew. You will have a chance to ask questions and we will also have the helicopter there for a small part of it so that you can have a look around, take some photos and chat to the crew. Make sure you pencil the date in your diary now! Official invites will be sent out later in the year. Other important dates Saturday 1st April – 12noon – 5pm – Foinavon Day, Compton Swan – In 1967 a horse trained in Compton won The Grand National, this day is to celebrate the 50th Anniversary, many family activities taking place, raising funds for TVAA and the Injured Jockeys Fund – Two volunteers required Saturday 15th April – Kimble Point to Point – volunteers required to assist on MDV Monday 17th April – 5pm – 8pm - Youth Orchestra Concert, Taplow Village Centre – The concert is in aid of us and they are allowing us to have a stand and collect at the concert – two volunteers, one who would be happy to say a few words during the concert Monday 24th – Sunday 30th April – The Oracle – as many as possible to bucket collect and promote our 3 Counties Trek Sunday 21st May – 9am until the last runner comes through! - Royal Berks 10k, Green Park, Reading – 10 volunteers required to assist with marshalling Saturday 27th & Sunday 28th May – 12noon – 6pm – Rokefest 2017, Home Sweet Home Ian, OX10 6JD – This is a live music event held annually this year in aid of us – volunteers needed to sell raffle tickets and bucket collect Saturday 27th May – Monday 29th May – 10.30am – 5.30pm - Mentmore Arts Festival, St Mary the Virgin C of E Church, LU7 0QE – Volunteers required to man a stand and set up a gazebo Sunday 28th May – 1pm – 6pm – Great Brickhill Cricket Club Open Air Music Event – MK17 9BA – This is an outdoor music event and we have been chosen as one of the charities to benefit – volunteers required to man a stand and bucket collect.
