In an emergency situation, you can find the 3 word address for your current location by opening the what3words app or visiting the link map.what3words.com in a browser window.

Click the ‘current location’ arrow in the bottom right of the screen to get your 3 word address.

Provide the 3 words given on screen to the 999 call handler.

We have our own critical care dispatch team based in the regional 999 call centre. With our paramedic and doctor crews providing specialist, advanced critical care and carrying additional drugs and equipment to that found on an average land ambulance, our dispatch team will task crews to incidents where our enhanced service can make a difference. They will pick up the 3 word location if it is given to the 999 call handler and log it into our system so our crew know where they are heading when they receive the call-out.

To be prepared we recommend you download the what3words app and know how to find your 3 word address, in-case you need to be able to provide it in an emergency situation.

The app also works offline (whereas using the map.what3words.com in a browser requires data connection) so this can be an added benefit and an additional reason to ensure you have it on your device in advance of a situation where you may need it.
