Marking the loss of a man who made a difference

Today (2nd August), we said goodbye to our President, Colin Lee MBE.

Colin was a founding force behind the creation of Thames Valley Air Ambulance, then known as the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance, in 1999.

Colin was a real gentleman, who helped to start something 24 years ago that has made a difference to the lives of thousands of patients and their loved ones.

Amanda McLean, CEO

He became our first Chair of Trustees, a position he held until 2010. After a decade of dedicated service, Colin was made an honorary life President and has remained involved with our lifesaving work ever since.

Colin’s fundraising efforts led to him being awarded an MBE in 2005, for services to the community. Indeed, Colin continued to volunteer for our charity well into his eighties and was a familiar face at our ever-popular Open Gardens events, along with his wife of 58 years, Marion.

Colin’s health deteriorated in recent years, but he remained passionate about his time with Thames Valley Air Ambulance and enjoyed seeing our lifesaving charity grow and evolve.

Amanda McLean, our Chief Executive, said:

“I was proud to represent Thames Valley Air Ambulance at Colin’s funeral today, alongside colleagues from our crew, as well as from our Fundraising, Finance, and Aftercare teams. It’s a testament to how much he meant to our charity and how involved he was with so many aspects of our work that so many of us wanted to be there.

“Colin was a real gentleman, who helped to start something 24 years ago that has made a difference to the lives of thousands of patients and their loved ones. Our thoughts remain with Colin’s family and friends, and the wider community, as we navigate a path through this great loss.”
