Thames Valley Air Ambulance provides a life-saving emergency service to the three counties of Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. No two days are ever the same and our medic team and pilots attend a range of incidents. Below is the 2014-15 break down by percentage:A breakdown of our missions by type

  • We provide on-scene patient care such as blood transfusions and intubations;
  • We have one helicopter and one emergency response vehicle;
  • Our flying time from scene to hospital is never more than 15 minutes (pdf);
  • We attended to 679 patients between October 2014 and September 2015;
  • Our service covers a 19 hour period each day thanks to our partnership with Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance;
  • It costs around £2,900 for every life-saving incident our crew attend;
  • We were the first air ambulance in the country to carry an I-stat machine which gives hospital-accurate blood results in just minutes; 
  • We receive no government funding and rely entirely on donations;
  • Our operational base is located at RAF Benson in Oxfordshire;
  • We have a partnership with South Central Ambulance Service which means all our paramedics are highly trained and experienced;
  • We have a partnership with Babcock Air Services, who provided us with G-TVAL, and continue to support us with its maintenance and our highly skilled pilots;
  • We are a part of the Association of Air Ambulances.
