Road Safety Week This week is Road Safety Week – something very close to all our hearts at Thames Valley Air Ambulance. Across the country five people are killed every single day on the roads. This is something we know how to cure – challenge dangerous driving behaviour. Road Safety Week is designed to do just that. It’s the biggest road safety event in the country and aims to spread awareness and promote life-saving messages. The Brake Pledge calls for people to drive less and, if they do drive, to do everything they can to protect themselves and the people around them. 38% of Thames Valley Air Ambulance’s call-outs are to road traffic collisions – the highest of any incident. Road traffic collisions are often the most shocking of our incidents we turn up to. Former patient Craig recalls his motorcycle crash, “My entire lower right leg had been crushed between the bike and car almost to the point where I no longer had a lower leg. I lost over half of my blood and suffered a small internal bleed in my brain despite the protection of my crash helmet.” We want everyone in our region to be safe when behind the wheel. Next time you are setting off on the road think about your safety and those around you. Find more about Road Safety Week here.
