The sleepy streets of Burghfield were transformed last week with thousands of spectators lining the roads to see the Box Kart Bash.

Twenty-eight teams took on the 800 metre course in which crashes and break-downs were many.

Karts came in all shapes and sizes with inspiration coming from ice-cream vans, Thunderbirds and even Bob the Builder.

The winners were Mortimer Sausage Rocket who completed the course in an incredible one minute four seconds.

Other prizes went to Mongol Missile for Best-Engineered, the Ice Cream Van for Best Novelty and 211 Air Cadets for the ‘People’s Choice’ award.

The organisers, The Burghfield Santas, said: “We’re all feeling a bit emotional when we think of what went into the day, and how many people came together to make it happen.”

“We still have more money to collect - but we are really excited to let you know that between the event and the money the teams collected in sponsorship we have raised over £20,000 for good causes so far!”

A massive thank you to the Burghfield Santas for their continued support of our life-saving charity, as well as everyone who came out and cheered on the box karts this year.
