A Decade of Volunteer Dedication Dedication (noun): the quality of being devoted or committed to a task or purpose. When it comes to dedication, Janet and Ray are the very the definition of the word. The couple have been volunteering for Thames Valley Air Ambulance for 10 years. Earlier in 2017, they passed another milestone in their volunteering, raising over £40,000 for us. That’s enough money for our helicopter to attend 14 potentially life-saving incidents. Back in 2007 Ray joined the charity as a volunteer after retiring from the emergency services. Janet helped at a couple of events with Ray, before officially signing up a year later. If you’ve been to one of our events, then you will almost certainly have spotted them. Open days, festivals, fetes, concerts – you name it, Janet and Ray have been there with their collection buckets in hand. “We usually raise funds by bucket collections at various locations that we organise ourselves,” Janet said. “We have always been well supported by the local people who donate so much to keep the helicopter in the sky.” “In our time as volunteers we have met some amazing people. Speaking to the public is the best part of the role. We have also met many former patients who, without Thames Valley Air Ambulance, wouldn’t be here today.” Janet and Ray are just two of our 200 strong volunteering team. Without our amazing team, who support our charity at events and around the community, we would not be able to continue. We are always on the lookout for more volunteers to join our team. Don’t worry, you don’t have to give up hundreds of hours a year – our volunteer roles are very flexible.
