This week the Chair of our Board of Trustees, Sir Tim Jenner stepped down and handed over to Sarah Roberts, a trustee with Thames Valley Air Ambulance for two years. We caught up with them both to look back on Sir Tim's tenure and find out what Sarah is looking forward to.

What’s been your greatest highlight as Chair?

Sir Tim: There have been so many over the last few years. But I’d single out the most recent - our transition to the new operating model as an independent healthcare provider. It’s allowed us to do so much more by enhancing our lifesaving service to the community, and it’s demonstrated what a great team we have. The amount of effort over the last 18 months has been inspirational.

What one piece of advice would you give to Sarah when she takes over as Chair?

Sir Tim: I hesitate to offer any, because Sarah has such an impressive background. However, I genuinely feel we have the best possible group of people, from the trustees to the management team, from our fantastic medics to the all-important volunteers. She needs to ensure everything we do stays focused on providing the best service wherever and whenever it’s needed. And keep it all enjoyable.

What have you enjoyed about being a Trustee?

Sarah: Being able to help the team deliver such an important service to our
local community and working with a group of people who are so passionate and inspiring. The commitment of the front-line team whatever the conditions is truly humbling.

What are you most looking forward to as Chair?

Sarah: Firstly, Sir Tim is going to be a very hard act to follow. We have a great bunch of trustees with amazing skills so my role will be to make sure we support Amanda (our CEO) and her team to continue to improve in delivering advanced medical care where it’s needed

Introducing Sarah Roberts, our new Chair of Trustees

I’m really lucky to live in the beautiful Chiltern Hills. I grew up in Great Missenden and have been living back here for nine years. When I’m not involved with Thames Valley Air Ambulance, you can find me pottering around my garden or walking my dog in the woods.

I originally trained as a dentist and spent ten years in general practice before a change of career. Over the last 20 years I’ve had various marketing roles in healthcare and charity organisations. I’ve worked in the charity sector since 2000 and been on charity boards since 2010. My last role was Chair of Pancreatic Cancer UK and I stood down in summer 2017 to concentrate on my role here at Thames Valley Air Ambulance. I’ve been on the board of Trustees here since 2016.
