Thousands of people line the streets of the sleepy village of Burghfield for an action-packed day of thrills and spills at the annual Burghfield Box Kart Bash.

Hosted by avid Thames Valley Air Ambulance supporters ‘The Burghfield Santas’, the second Box Kart Bash saw 29 handmade karts race down Hermitt’s Hill in Burghfield for the title ‘King of the Hill’. With money still being counted, organisers are hoping to smash last year’s applaudable sum of £24,000 to support the work of Thames Valley Air Ambulance.

This year there were five awards up for grabs, including Best Engineered Kart, Best Novelty Kart and Longest Jump – full winners are listed below.

"We are so proud of our amazing community in Burghfield,” said organiser Glyn Townsend. “There were over 150 volunteers, including local scouts, air cadets and the WI all pulling together to raise a huge amount for good causes.”

The Burghfield Santas are one of Thames Valley Air Ambulance’s community fundraising groups, and last year raised more than £50,000 through events including Burghfest, the popular beer festival.

Claire Redrup, the Charity’s Community Fundraising Manager attended the Boxkart Bash and was completely in awe at the size and scale of the event. “We are delighted to be a part of it and to see so many people getting involved. The generous support of the Burghfield Santas helps to ensure we can continue to deliver advanced care to people in a medical emergency night and day, 365 days a year."
